A Vintage Feel Castle Wedding with a Bride in Red ~ UK Wedding Blog ~ Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Yesterday we had a beautiful bride in blue, so lets have a gorgeous bride in red today :-)

Elly and John opted for a simple December wedding with a budget of £6000 at the gorgeous Sherborne Castle. With Elly wearing a beautiful 1950s style bespoke dress with black accessories….. i adore her dainty birdcage veil too :-)

I also have to mention the fabulous bridesmaids, in mismatching black dresses and gorgeous fur stoles. Oh so glamorous.

Thanks so much to the amazing Lisa Dawn Photography for sharing her beautiful imagery with us today, here is what she had to say about the day;

“Elly & John are such a fun, warm couple.  This was our last wedding of the year and it ended on a high! Elly and John’s Christmas wedding was held at Sherborne Castle.

We met Elly and the Bridesmaids in the morning at her parents house in the middle of the Dorset countryside. Elly wore a beautiful berry red dress, which had a huge black bow at the back.  Her shoes were black peep toe heels and to compliment her 1950′s vintage look she work a white bird cage veil.

Elly looked stunning and radiant and had a huge grin on her face all day! The Bridesmaids looked really stylish in black with their red rose bouquets. Each of the Bridesmaids wore a fur shrug to keep them warm on the way to the ceremony.  A work colleague of Elly had leant her a beautiful vintage fur coat for the day.

During Elly & John’s wedding ceremony they sang Christmas carols including ‘Winter Wonderland’. Everyone also sang ‘When i’m sixy four’ by the Beatles.  The songs were such a lovely part of their ceremony and put everyone in a festive mood!

Elly and John decided to have an intimate wedding inviting just their nearest and dearest friends and family.  Following their ceremony canapes were served which included trout caught by both the Bride and Groom’s fathers.  The guests then made their way to Elly’s family’s local pub, which is known for it’s delicious food.  Everyone involved with Elly and John’s wedding had a connection with the couple. Even the mini bus driver who took the bridesmaids to the Castle used to drive Elly to school when she was younger!”

NAMES… Elly and John

WEDDING DATE… 3/12/2011

THE PROPOSAL… In the snow in our local park early on a Sunday morning  - 2 years previous.

THE VISION… Simple, with the nearest and dearest. Personal touch to the whole day. My best friends dad drove me to the wedding. The man that used to drive me to nursery drove the guests. The hairdressers used to cut my hair when I was tiny, the pub where the reception was has been my parents local my whole life.

THE PLANNING PROCESS… Delayed!!! Not sure what we wanted. Was all quite easy to plan though and just did little bits at a time.

BUDGET… Excluding the honeymoon and rings I think it was about £6000.

THE VENUE… Ceremony was in an orangery of a castle ground. Reception was in the local pub!

THE DRESS + ACCESSORIES… 1950’s red wedding dress made by a local dress maker in Manchester.

FINDING THE DRESS… Easy!! I never tried on any white wedding dresses as I have never wanted to wear one. I knew exactly what I wanted and the dress maker had made my friends bridesmaids dresses previous and they were gorgous.

GROOM’S ATTIRE… Last minute!! He wore blue suit from Selfridges.

THE READINGS + MUSIC… Readings picked by the groom as simple and personal. Was captain madolins and albert einsteins ‘ gravity’. We wanted to sing a Christmas carol as it was a December wedding so chose Winter Wonderland as it was hard to find one that was not religious. Also sang when im 64 by the beatles as I love this song!!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS… 2 best mates from childhood, best mate from uni and grooms best mate from school. Bridesmaids bought there own long black dresses – all different.

THE FLOWERS… Simple and not over the top.

THE CAKE… Cheese wedding cake from our local cheese shop in Manchester

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER… Lisa Dawn

THE DETAILS + DÉCOR… All done ourselves. Ceremony place decorated by holly from our garden. All table decorations done by myself.

THE HONEYMOON… 5 star in new york – was incredible!!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS… Giggling the whole time!!!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES…. Enjoy every moment and don’t get stressed about preparations as no point!! Also do what you want, we did nothing traditional and all how we wanted and all the guests commented on how personal and ‘us’ it all was. Also invite who you want!!

Thanks so much to Elly and John for sharing their cosy December wedding with us today :-) XOXO Lou
