You think of a barn wedding and usually, you imagine rustic charm. But barn weddings can also be modern, classic and chic, just as this Harefield Barn wedding is I am featuring today.
Emma and Steven were hitched on the 18th December 2020 and wanted a London meets Devon wedding, which was traditional yet contemporary. Even though this wedding was held at Christmas, it has a really sleek vibe with grey tones and greenery throughout. Simple touches such as the Christmas tree, crackers and bauble favours gave a gentle nod to the festive season.
Emma and Steven looked amazing in their stylish attire as well as totally loved up and happy. It is so lovely to see. Jennifer Jane Photography thank you so much for sharing these incredible captures with us.

The Proposal
Steven and I had been together for 10 years when he proposed. We are both from Devon and never met, we then went to the same University and didn’t meet there either. On a random night out in Oceania, Kingston our eyes met across the light-up dance floor and the rest was history. Our special place is Polzeath, a place that brings back memories from our childhood and in October 2019 we went for our 10-year anniversary. It was a rainy cold day and we went for a disastrous WET walk (I think he planned to do it at the beach but I was very cold and moany!) so we went for lunch in the Oystercatcher. Over a glass of our favourite champagne and a bowl of cheesy chips he got down on one knee and made me the happiest drowned rat!
The Vision
We wanted to mix our Devon routes with our London lifestyle. I am a very classic cut fan with a love for eucalyptus. Black tie was a must and so was Aperol Spitz! We actually won a competition, and they sponsored our wedding!
The Venue
Harefield Barn, Shobrooke, Crediton.
Your Outfits
My dress was from Pronovias, from The Wedding Shop in Wimbledon. It was number 32 to try on and I had admired it on Instagram for a year but could never find it. I went to The Wedding Shop and it was the last one in stock. Meant to be! I wanted a classic cut but loved the very low neckline and buttons down the bottom (Pippa Middleton bridesmaid dress vibes!).
I treated myself to the Carrie Bradshaw Manolo Blahnik’s in grey to match the greys in our home and the autumnal tones of the wedding – I plan to continue wearing these on our anniversaries – ‘an investment piece’.
Steve’s Tux was from Thomas Pink, London – he wanted a velvet jacket and a traditional cut. He had more fittings than I did and probably spent more money on it than my dress.
The Ceremony & Music
Due to Corona we were not allowed a band so my bridesmaid pulled together an incredible Spotify playlist, which suited Steve and I very well.
First dance – Luther Vandross – Never Too Much (Steve swung me around the dancefloor of Oceana to it on our encounter!)
Aisle Song – Ho Hey – The Lumineers
Your Photographer
Jennifer Jane (she nailed it perfectly – very talented and friendly, we couldn’t have been happier with the photos).
The Styling & Decor
All decorations were my mother – she was my wedding planner – an amazing woman, great taste and a fantastic sport throughout.
- The Cake was from Mills Bakery in Clyst St Mary.
Flowers – Sophie Millington (absolutely incredible – especially the Ladder!!!)
Balloons – Party Time Exeter
Colours – Greys and greens – autumnal icy tones
The Honeymoon
Not had one yet thanks to Corona! Hoping to go back to Polzeath on a mini-moon when we can (St. Moritz Spa) where we got engaged. Also, a safari in South Africa is on the cards (fingers crossed).
Memorable Moments
- Steve loves 80s music so he organised a firework display to Toto – Africa.
- Aperols!
- Bacon butties and Moet in my bridal pjs with my mummy and bridesmaids.
- Personalised hand sans as favours.
- Face masks with ‘Wifey’ and ‘Hubby’ on.
- Best food ever – LAP Catering
