I have so much love for this real wedding feature today. WWW readers Laura and Kerry were hitched on the 5th December 2020 after rearranging their original wedding plans due to COVID-19. The resulting celebrations were chilled, intimate and very boho, it was all just gorgeous.
As owners of four cats, cats played a fun part in their wedding theme, along with a gorgeous blue and silver colour scheme, not to mention an abundance of greenery. I adore Laura’s beautiful floral wedding dress, it’s such a showstopper, Laura and Kerry both looked totally amazing!
We have Laura Coughlan to thank for sharing these utterly gorgeous images today, proof that love wins again! YES.
Silver & Blue Wedding
The Proposal
On our 10th year of being together, Kerry decided that this was FINALLY the time to pop the question! We booked a city break to Rome in the summer of 2017. He thought of everything, even down to placing a post-it note on the engagement ring box so that if security conducted a search on his luggage they would be discrete. I had absolutely no idea he was going to propose. Although, I did wonder why he brought with him a full-length shirt to Rome when it was 35°C. Then, was particular stressed when it was extremely creased. The day of the proposal we walked, for what felt miles, to the Orange Gardens which overlooks the city and you get a stunning panoramic view of Rome. However, Kerry was unaware there was a function going on so it was full to the brim people. Not wanting to have hundreds of people watch, he decided to change his plan. As we walked back to the hotel there was an ancient chariot racing stadium and he plucked up the courage to ask me to marry him. Of course I said yes, after I had checked that he had asked my father’s permission!
The Vision
Myself and Kerry planned to marry on 25th July 2020 with a large amount of guests. However, due to COVID-19, our vision changed massively and we decided to go for a more relaxed and intimate micro wedding on 5th December. We went from planning a summer wedding with all of our family and friends to planning a winter wedding with just our immediate family and a couple of close friends. We wanted a laidback wedding full of lots of foliage, blues (for Chelsea as Kerry is a massive Chelsea fan and is even named after Chelsea legend Kerry Dixon), silvers as it was close to Christmas and include tributes to our four cats Tallulah, Sansa, Hank and Betty.
The Venue
Originally, we were due to get married at the Railway Barn in July but due to COVID-19, we had to postpone. When we decided to postpone, we both agreed that we still wanted to get married in 2020. Unfortunately, our venue was only open during the summer so the hunt for a new venue began.
We couldn’t quite believe our luck when we stumbled across Tuffon Hall. We had a virtual tour of the venue and both knew immediately that this was where we wanted to get married. Once out of lockdown, we spent our original wedding day touring the new venue, it felt like fate. Tuffon Hall was exactly what we were looking for.
The barn was beautifully renovated and the grounds and vineyard were picturesque. What we loved about the venue was that everything was in one place. The Cellar Door could hold the ceremony downstairs and the wedding breakfast up on the balcony. The terrace overlooked the stunning grounds and vineyard so we knew there was plenty of opportunities for photographs with a beautiful backdrop. Pod and Sarah were phenomenal throughout the whole process, it ticked all the boxes.
Your Outfits
When hunting for a venue I came across Suzanne Harington as she was at an open day I had previously attended and fell in love with her bespoke wedding dresses. I loved the fact that she would customise my dress to however I wanted it and it would be one of a kind so I immediately booked an appointment. I’ve always known that wanted something unique and when I spotted the lace wedding dress with embroidery flower detail, I instantly knew it was one. I didn’t want to take it off! Suzanne then designed the dress of my dreams with this unique lace. It was perfect. I teamed my dress up with a pair of leopard print strap block heels from Linzi, to fit with our cat theme.
Kerry knew he wanted a blue suit and we spent a couple of evenings searching the internet to find the one. He found a blue tweed suit and navy floral tie from Moss Bros and he complimented his suit with a pair of black Ted Baker shoes. The best man and father of the bride wore matching suits and shoes.
The maid of honour and bridesmaid wore a sparkly blue dress from ASOS with silver strap block heels from Linzi.
As a vegan, it was extremely important for me when finding a make-up artist and hairstylist that they both use vegan products. Both Nichola and Peri were marvellous and made me look and feel stunning without having to go against my ethical views. They were both professional but also really friendly and put me at ease. We had such a laugh the morning of the wedding whilst getting ready and opening Kerry’s box of surprises. The hair and make-up were absolutely flawless.
The Ceremony & Music
I had been to various open days and met Three Mile Hill at several venues. We had always wanted a band and they were perfect. The guys were amazing and really made our special day even more magical with their unique take on our favourite songs. They made our first dance even more special and memorable.
Your Photographer & Filmmaker
My sister’s best friend Laura is a photographer. We knew straight away she was going to be the first person we contacted and we were delighted that she was free. We wanted natural photographs of our special day and where we both already knew Laura we felt so much more at ease. It made our day so much more personal and she captured our day perfectly.
The Styling & Decor
We met Hayley (Starry Eyed Weddings) at an open day at our original venue and knew as I am a teacher I just wouldn’t have the time to decorate our venue. In regards to decorating the venue, I was a pretty laidback bride-to-be. I knew what colours we were going for and that I wanted my four cats to heavily feature throughout the day but other than that I was up for any suggestions and inspiration.
Luckily for me Hayley is incredible at her job and has such a good eye for detail and all things decor and flowers. She came up with fabulous ideas that I welcomed as I had complete faith and trust in her.
We went for silvers to compliment the blue tones and because we were getting married close to Christmas we even had mistletoe hanging. She created the most magical atmosphere with her beautiful foliage arches; twinkling lights and lanterns; personalised seating plans; a unique cake wardrobe; bespoke banner with words from our first dance featuring plastic birds; and a personalised Cool Cats’ Bar cocktail sign with the added details of two of our cats.
Hayley even took care of my beautiful bridal bouquet, my bridesmaid’s bouquets and the buttonholes. The bouquets were exquisite, they included lots of foliage, silvers and trailing ribbon. I added charms of my nans and grandads on both of their wedding days as unfortunately they couldn’t be there with us and I wanted to feel close to them on our wedding day.
I used my own creative skills to create place names for each of our guests by making cats using pegs, felt and paint. Kerry chose to get lottery tickets as favours for each of our guests as we felt everyone was due a bit of luck this year.
The show-stopping cake was made by Victoria from Pinkface. It was a stunning 3 tier cake with icing flowers and was made up of 3 different flavours (red velvet; lemon; and strawberry and champagne). It tasted just as delicious as it looked and was topped with a bespoke cake topper of myself and Kerry along with our four fur babies – Tallulah, Sansa, Hank and Betty.
The Honeymoon
Originally we were due to be going on our honeymoon during the summer holidays to Bali. However, due to the current climate, this was postponed. Once able to, we will be looking to get away somewhere. Whether it be somewhere in the UK or abroad.
Memorable Moments
COVID-19 made the whole wedding process much more unpredictable but we were just so ecstatic to finally be able to marry with our immediate family and close friends. As we were only allowed 15 guests, including myself and Kerry, it was much more intimate and this made our special day even more special. I’m so glad that we ended 2020 positively and on such a high after such an unprecedented year.
The speeches were even better than I thought they would be. I was really proud and impressed with the thought that went into them from my father, Kerry and his best man. They were emotional and hilarious.
Our first dance was inspired by one of the first gifts Kerry gave to me when we were 19 years old. Yes, you heard right. He bought me a singing pig that sings ‘My Girl’ so we agreed that this just had to be our first dance. I pre-warned the band that they had big shoes to fill and the pig even made an appearance at the wedding.
Advice For Other Couples
Don’t wait any longer! If you love each other and want to get married take the plunge, you will not regret it. With current restrictions, family and friends will understand. Just have the most wonderful day and making the most of everything.
The day goes so fast, enjoy every second of it.
Do whatever makes you both happy, it’s your wedding.
