If you’re dreaming of a festive and cosy rustic Christmas wedding, then settle in as you are in for a real treat!
We’re joined by Jade and Jack and their barn wedding held at The Granary Estates, Cambridgeshire. They held their wedding four days after Christmas, in that lovely week in between Christmas and NYE and it turned out to be a gloriously romantic affair.
From the personal music choices to the celestial signs and the fabulous green and gold accents, not to mention the sensational outfits, I think you will adore every little detail.
It’s wonderful to be sharing WWW wedding supplier fave, Thyme Lane Photography‘s incredible images too. Woah!
Rustic Christmas Wedding
The Proposal
We were on holiday in the Dominican Republic in 2019 Jack wasn’t too sure how he was going to pop the question but seized the opportunity one morning when we were on the beach watching the sunrise.
I was in complete shock as he hadn’t given a single hint that a proposal was in the near future. The sneaky devil! We spent the rest of the morning calling our friends and family and I will treasure that day forever.
The Vision
The Vision was to create a romantic atmosphere with low lighting and earthy colours. We are huge fans of music so we knew we needed plenty of musical entertainment throughout the day. We are also huge foodies so we wanted to be sure our guests always had great food and drink to enjoy.
When I thought about our wedding I kept coming back to the image of a cosy, party cabin in the woods!
The Ceremony & Music
We love music and one of our first bookings was a pianist for our wedding ceremony. We spent a long time picking songs from her repertoire also finding new ones. I walked down the aisle to Landslide by Fleetwood Mac (piano version).
We hoped to make the ceremony feel intimate and personal. We wrote our own vows and had three readings from people we loved, including, lyrics from ‘you make loving fun’ Fleetwood Mac, an extract from The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran and Jack’s dad made one by piecing lots of different pieces of love advice from various films and songs.
I grabbed hold of Jack’s arms the whole time, I didn’t want to let him go.
On the way out, our pianist played ‘You’re my best friend’ from Queen.
We had an amazing singer for the wedding breakfast. She had a really soulful voice, not cheesy at all which was something we found a lot with wedding singers and something we wanted to avoid. She sang some crowd-pleasers.
We had a DJ and saxophonist in the evening and the sax kicked off the evening with some Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty. (After the first dance which was Otis Redding- for your precious love.)
Budget
Originally, we wanted everything to come in at 10k. After a quick research, we realised that if we wanted the wedding of our dreams, this wouldn’t be possible and so we budgeted £25,000.
Your Outfits
Jade’s dress: I am quite a casual dresser. I like clean lines. When trying on dresses I quickly realised that lace, beading, and frills didn’t feel like me. When I tried on the very simple Essense of Australia dress, I just felt comfortable… and it had pockets. I had Freya Rose shoes (Not practical as they were 4 inches high but boy, they were gorgeous!).
Jack’s suit: originally we wanted Jack in a dark green velvet jacket but it was very hard to find and we didn’t have the budget for a custom. So we made the trip to Aristocracy in London where he purchased a black tux with a silver detailed lapel.
The Venue
11th time the charm! We looked at a lot of venues but nothing seemed to fit perfectly until we found The Granary Estates. It offered the aesthetic we wanted, plenty of indoor space without it feeling like the guests would be too spread out, an accommodating (and so lovely!) team and a bit of onsite accommodation.
It was love at first sight for us.
Your Photographer
I was quite picky with photographers. We wanted documentary-style photos as we are not people who are comfortable in front of the camera! When I saw Thyme Lane, I fell in love immediately. Their style matched my romantic, low lighting vision and Noemi made us feel comfortable right away.
The Styling & Decor
We saved money on decoration. It was not one of our high priority areas. We thought that the candles, fairy lights and enormous Christmas tree would provide enough decoration. Therefore, we didn’t go overboard on flowers.
The bridal party had beautiful bouquets that matched the table centrepieces. They were made up of a mixture of fresh and dried flowers. Our colour theme was champagne, cream, copper and green.
We had a lot of fun with the signs, we had an amazing supplier who hand-painted all of them. We loved the celestial theme as I imagined them representing the dark, winter night sky outside of our romantic cabin. The table names were all named after some of our favourite album titles, even the seating plan was named after a Cher song. The dessert table was named after Def Leppards ‘pour some sugar on me’.
Our welcome sign had a quote from the poem The Raven, as this our new surname. They were perfect.
We didn’t do much DIY as we didn’t have much decor but we did make up some Mama Juana (national drink of dominican republic) shots for the groom’s speech. We bought a bulk of macarons and hand wrote our guests names on them as name places.
We decided not to have a cake as we are not big fans. Instead, we went for a krispy kreme tower, accompanied by some gorgeous brownies and cupcakes. I have a real sweet tooth so a dessert table was needed from the start!
The Honeymoon
We are all set to travel to the USA in May. We will start in San Fran, hire a car and make our way through Carmel, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and end up in Las Vegas for a final blowout. We wanted something active that provided us plenty of opportunities to eat good food and listen to some great music.
Memorable Moments
We had a singer for our wedding breakfast and we asked her to learn one of our favourite songs – simply the best by Noah Reid (schitts creek). When she started playing that song, Jack and I had a real moment. We were together, in a room full of people we loved, eating food, drinking wine and listening to an amazing artist sing our favourite song. It was beautiful.
The whole ceremony! It was intimate and romantic. We had created our own vows and it felt very personal.
Advice For couples
Spend time together!! Jack and I were trying to mingle with guests but it meant we were not together in the evening as much as we would have liked.
And eat the food! I was so overwhelmed I hardly ate anything!
Oh so beautiful!
Jade and Jack a massive thank you for sharing your fantastically rustic Christmas wedding with us.
