I have a funny feeling that Susanna and Jason’s modern and minimal Stones of the Yarra Valley wedding in Australia will blow you away. What with its epic greenery flower arrangements that really pack a punch to the sublime stylish outfits.
I love how Susanna and Jason really stayed true to themselves and totally and utterly chose to hold their ceremony dearest to them. They really made it a personal moment and one I am sure they will always cherish. From the twinkling lights to the sparklers and confetti, enjoy it all.
Rick Liston Photography thank you ever so much for sharing these joyous images with us.

The Proposal
We met on a dating app called Happn. We were both hesitant about being on a dating app and so we would turn off the app when going to work and uni but one day we had both forgotten to turn off our location settings and we just happened to cross paths.
After a few conversations, Jason mustered up the courage to ask me out to dinner. We met for the first time at Crown and little did we know that two years after that we would also get engaged there too!
One Friday after work, Jason had booked a suite at Crown Towers, decorated the whole room with massive white balloons, green foliage and LOTS of candles and surprised me with an epic 5 minute long proposal speech!
He’d got my sister, niece and nephews to come down from Brisbane to surprise me as well (as if the proposal wasn’t enough of a surprise!) and it was just one of the most magical nights! We then spent 4 nights basking in fiancé bliss, eating way too much and spending all day in the pool – it was the best!
The Vision
When planning our wedding we knew we wanted it to be bright and light, relaxed but still sophisticated. We were strong on a neutral palette that would compliment the gorgeous greenery around the venue.
We wanted to make sure that everyone who came to our wedding felt like they were at one big party among friends. We were keen on making new traditions and so we didn’t follow any specific cultural or religious traditions
We designed our whole ceremony with our pastor, wrote our own vows and picked our own songs. The ceremony was always the most important and special part of the day for us, so we wanted it to be a reflection of who we are, our values and beliefs.
The Styling
There wasn’t much DIY work for our wedding – we aren’t the most handy/crafty people so we left it all up to our suppliers. To us, our venue was just so stunning that we went down the path of minimalist decorations but we went crazy on the florals.
The Flowers
Our flowers were the most important part in determining the overall style of our wedding. They were the wow element in the chapel and our hanging installation was a highlight at our reception.
We were very set on all white flowers with wild overgrown and lush greenery. We had pew ends in the chapel, an incredible installation behind us at our ceremony, the bouquets were a mix of the most incredible flowers that just worked together, our reception tables were lined with vases that had foliage spilling out of them and running onto the table with pops of white flowers.
We also loved the use of hurricane candles that were used throughout the floral arrangements, these added something bright and light and at night gave the room a really cosy feeling. Our florist Zoe was just the best, we didn’t have to say much to her, she just did her thing and it honestly exceeded all our expectations, we were very blessed to work with her.
The Ceremony & Music
Our ceremony was really special to us for so many reasons, but one of the biggest parts was that our family provided the ceremony music for us. We had three people so very close to us, who had prayed for us, encouraged us and had been there through all the highs and lows singing and playing incredible music for us during one of the most important moments of our lives.
Our hearts were just filled with so much love and gratitude for them. Ps: they are INCREDIBLY TALENTED!!!
Another highlight for us was our amazing MC quartet! We had our niece and nephew join some more talented members of our family as emcees for our reception. To think that I (Susanna) was there on the days when both my niece and nephew were born and that they were then emceeing my reception was just wild!! It was so special and such a gorgeous part of our night.
Your Outfits
Susanna: I didn’t have too much difficulty choosing a dress. I went to two studios and ended up choosing a dress from the first studio I visited. All I knew was that I wanted this dress to be the most spectacular dress I would ever wear and that no matter what, I would be able to dance the whole night in it.
The neckline and sleeves were my favourite parts of the dress as that was the style of dress I was wearing when Jason proposed to me – it felt like it was meant to be!
I’m not much of a jewellery person so I stayed true to this and didn’t have much jewellery on on the day. I decided to wear my rings and a pair of earrings that Jason had gifted me which was really special to me.
My shoes were one of the biggest highlights for me, I am absolutely in love with them and was so happy I went for an unconventional colour (blue), I have been in love with these shoes for so long and just knew I had to get them for my wedding day!
Jason: For me it was an easy choice! I always wanted a dark navy blue three-piece suit. Navy blue is my favourite colour. A special shout out to the team at Menzclub Eastland who have looked after me from a teenager buying his first suit until now. You guys are amazing and I wouldn’t shop anywhere else for my suits!
Memorable Moments
Susanna: Seeing Jason when the doors opened at the chapel and also making my vows to him! Both moments were every bit as magical as I thought they would be and I would give anything to relive them again.
Jason: My first look at Susanna when the chapel doors opened and she walked down the aisle with such a big smile. Her smile is something that gets me every time and it melts my heart.
I also couldn’t wait to see her in her wedding dress. I got to keep her wedding dress in my house a few weeks before the wedding and whilst I was tempted to take a sneak peek at it, I’m so glad I waited to see her in it on the day!
She looked absolutely stunning! When I look back on the day the entire ceremony was the most special moment for me. The music, message from our Pastor and making our vows in front of our family and friends was truly something I will never forget.
Advice For Other Couples
Susanna: We had a really full-on two weeks before the wedding. I don’t have regrets, but if I got a do-over, I would have taken a holiday with Jason, and maybe left our phones at home.
If you have the capacity to do this – I highly recommend it.
Jason: Planning a wedding can be quite stressful and it does take a lot of effort, so try and get in early and lock in your major suppliers at least one year in advance if you can. We did this and were so grateful because we were able to have the best suppliers who were not only incredible at what they do, but incredible people also.
Furthermore, build rapport with your suppliers, meet with them and clearly communicate your requirements with them.
But aside from that just enjoy all the moments leading up to your wedding because there’ll probably never be a time quite like this in your life again.
