On an unusually warm February day, Iain and Rebecca’s navy winter wedding was taking place at Saltmarshe Hall in Yorkshire. Their day was a really great celebration of their love, complete with glam sequin bridesmaid dresses, fabulous florals and a lot of emotion.
Iain and Rebecca both looked incredible, Rebecca wore a swishy gown with her hair in waves, while Iain was suited and booted in blue tweed. Pops of red were interweaved in the flowers and outfits for a real contrast.
Do also spot the cool Land Rover transport, very cute pups and some spectacular entertainment.
Aden Priest Photography thank you so much for sharing with us these sensational images of a very special day indeed.
Navy Winter Wedding
The Proposal
We were on holiday in Malta. 5 years after our first ever holiday together, which was in Malta! We went for a sunset picnic on our favourite beach called Paradise Bay, it’s beautiful, small and quiet.
He got down on one knee and all that. The ring was just what I wanted, a vintage sapphire and diamond number. Then he unwrapped our favourite champagne from a towel so we could celebrate.
The Vision
We were pretty set on a new years eve wedding. Thought it was a really fun idea because everyone needs a party to go to on NYE. We also knew that we wanted a private wedding, and rooms available to stay.
We had already booked the venue, photographer and DJ for the wedding on 31/12/19 but when we found out that my Dad’s cancer was worse than we thought, we managed to move everything to 23/2/19.
I tried to do the wedding as I’d wanted at NYE but the budget was smaller because of the short notice (just less than 3 months) and different time of year (I really wanted an xmassy wedding, decorations, lights and trees).
Budget
Just as small as we could get it, I’m up for saving where possible, but luckily my parents helped us out. It cost around £20k in total.

Your Outfits
My dress was from Osh Gosh Gowns, Scunthorpe. It was a Mori Lee one. I would have got second hand, I would have got off the rack preferably, but I had a design in mind.
I really was struggling to find what I wanted, especially in such a short time. I had been to so many dress shops and not found the perfect one.
I described what I wanted to Jess at Osh Gosh and she found it in a catalogue and ordered a sample for me to try the next week. It was the one. SO perfect. Wendy managed to get it in for me the week before the wedding, and the seamstress did a fabulous job.
We got Iain’s and the groomsmen’s suits from Cavani online. He really had his heart set on green tweed suits but we could not find any anywhere! The blue tweed suits did look gorgeous though.
I have to mention my bridesmaid’s dresses because they are spectacular. I found the Jenny Packham dresses on sale in Debenhams from £240 to £60 each!
I bought the dresses before I had even decided who I would ask to be my maids (I bought about 7 dresses, various sizes). And they were perfect for a NYE wedding. (I probably wouldn’t have bought them for the Feb wedding, but I did still love them).
The Ceremony & Music
We wanted a quickie really. Nothing religious, no readings or songs. Just I DO and get on with the party.
I cried all the way down the aisle, as did my dad, and most guests. It was very emotional. We had a guitar player play ‘Can you feel the love tonight’ – Elton John, down the aisle. He played a few George Ezra songs for signing. Then we had Nikki Minaj – Starships for walking out, such a fun song.
Your Photographer & Filmmaker
Aden Priest. What a love, a star, just perfect. He was very understanding when we had to move the wedding, and I was so happy that he could still do it.
He made me and my bridesmaids feel so comfortable in the morning. He also made me relax about my cold sore that stress had caused, he said he’d sort it out on the photos, and that he did. Not a sign of anything on any photo. I love my photos. He got them back to us so quickly too.
The Styling & Decor
All decorations and flowers were made by me, my mum and sister.
It was really important for me to have lots of flowers everywhere. The colour scheme was navy and dark red. I bought all of the flowers from Triangle Nursery online and got them all delivered a few days before the wedding.
Some of the greenery, mostly in the garland on the stairs, was from our garden. We made the garland, all of the bouquets and the buttonholes ourselves. We just did a bit of youtube learning beforehand but it was all pretty simple. And I really enjoyed doing it. When looking back, I am always happy with my flowers.
The arch above the dinner table was from eBay and we cut it and put that together ourselves.
My dad made signs and put them on the road all the way from the motorway to help guests find the venue.
We didn’t have a wedding cake… I just don’t get the cutting the cake thing.
The glassware on the table was from charity shops. The frames were too, and my mum printed the table names.
My mum made anything paper, invitations etc, so everything matched. Including the ‘write a message in the bottle’, name tags on dresses, table names etc. Lots of little touches. (The table names were Step Brothers quotes, our favourite film.)
Happy Chalk Hazel decorated my mirrors.
The Honeymoon
Malta of course! Unfortunately, we were only there for three days before we had to travel home. I’m so thankful that my Dad got to walk me down the aisle. We lost him two weeks after the wedding.
Memorable Moments
I didn’t get to eat any canapés but apparently, they were amazing.
The DJ played some incredible tunes, just perfect for mine and Iain’s taste. He was more than just a DJ, he was an entertainer. SO much fun.
It was just amazing to have everyone together and party.
Advice For Other Couples
You can do as much as you’d like yourself, not just to save money, but it’s nice to know that you’ve made it. I love looking back and seeing all the little personal touches.
Think about what is more important to you. Don’t invite people just because you ‘should’. It’s your day, you do you.
For any brides who would describe themselves as ‘plus size’, believe me when I say I did NOT ONCE think about looking fat. I felt beautiful. Find a dress you love and just enjoy your day. No one is thinking about how fat or thin you are, they’re thinking about how happy you look.
